Description: First released single from AMNESIAC (2001). Directed by SHYNOLA, a collective group of London visual artist/animators. Pyramid Song was the first single released in over three years, after none were taken from their previous album, KID A. This video was based on a dream that lead singer Thom Yorke once had and it was the first Radiohead video not to feature any depiction of the band or singer. |

baka41 ::: Favorites 2007-12-31 23:24:34 This song is confusing but wonderful because of the mystery of what it means, but it sure is a great song and very peaceful. __________________________________________________

funktronique ::: Favorites 2007-12-21 04:41:46 i never said Siddhartha is about Buddhism. but the ideas expressed in the book are very much Buddhist in nature, whereas the lyrics also mention 'angels' and 'heaven' - notions unknown in Buddhism. and 'crossing the river' is a well-known allegory for death in a variety of different cultures. that is not to say that Siddhartha had no influence on this song, but it just seems to me that there's more to it than just that. __________________________________________________
bl44rth ::: Favorites 2007-12-19 11:48:17 Siddhartha is not about Buddhism, it's about a man's search for that 'something else' that religion attempts to codify. He learns to love all things, coming to the realization that every individual thing will be everything else in time. He comes to this realization while working as a ferryman, hence 'jumped in the river, what did i see' and 'we all went to heaven in a little row boat' The lyrics are not exactly what Siddhartha comes to realize, but is a close approximation of his realization. __________________________________________________
rlarkinson ::: Favorites 2007-12-17 09:06:10 Initially I see the video looks like a nightmarish vision of Earth after Global Warming occurs. The person trying to return home afterwards is kind of a insane notion, as that would just be a plain stupid thing to try and accomplish. I also get the sense that we are going on some nostalgic voyage, "an alternate cruise" of sorts. This cruise takes us to somewhere familiar, but is slightly nightmarish at the same time and nothing but a place of loss or regret. __________________________________________________

funktronique ::: Favorites 2007-12-07 01:54:07 except that there's no notion of "heaven" in Buddhism. i think it's a mixture of different things, really. i don't think the lyrics were inspired by only one book. __________________________________________________
Zedetnik ::: Favorites 2007-12-06 16:09:04 Indeed. The book's name is SIDDHARTHA, by german writer Herman Hesse, about the self-knowledge, ascetism and self-balance. Can't miss it. __________________________________________________
FreestyleD25 ::: Favorites 2007-12-06 15:54:05 actually alot of people think the lyrics were based on a novel called siddhartha written many years ago that supported different buddhist views and ideas, this is where the line and they all went to heaven in a little row boat comes from, the river representing the unity of life and the boat and transitory in between samsara (earth or suffering) and nirvana (knowledge, wisdom, peace, and happiness) __________________________________________________
