You need to listen to what they tell their own people, not the propaganda they sell to the liberal leftists. They HAVE made their intentions very clear, convert or die...What didn't you understand?

If we are damaged and put out of the situation, who will protect you from attack. Nobody is pro-war, but when you have a rabid dog running loose you don't solve the problem by ignoring it. You just go out and shoot it!

My mistake. You were hoping I got it first. Almost as bad, but not quite the same. It has been said before that "America must withdraw and America can't withdraw" from Iraq. It will withdraw one day, I'm sure, after negotiations with insurgent leaders, but it has as much hope of succeeding in its official goal as the British did early in the last century.

As for dealing with people who "want to kill us all," history holds many lessons. There are plenty of examples to choose from, the first I know of being written by Tacitus c. 98. Robert A. Pape's book is another instructive work.

My comment yesterday didn't show up. First, the Iranian president never used an idiom that does not exist in Farsi. It's as simple as that. That doesn't mean he loves Israel, but it does mean the translator, (selective) MEMRI, was full of it. As for the "rabid dog," copy and paste should suffice: The president is a figurehead blowhard without real power to attack anyone. The Revolutionary Council would make such a decision.

The fact that this complexity has yet to be embraced by the Bush administration is part of what perpetuates the tragedy in Iraq. Boiling things down to "they'll kill us if we don't kill them" only brings endless death upon humanity. We have to find better, smarter ways to deal with people in the world who are at once deeply angry about their lot in life AND ready to kill others in the mistaken belief that this alone will bring about the results they desire.

You're correct, history does hold many lessons. Chamberlain's "Peace in our time" comes to mind...

Chamberlain was relevant to the situation that the world was in at the time. Since then, his inaction and the results that followed are used to try to get us to equate every petty thug in the world with Hitler. That weak analogy got tired way back in the 1980s.

Nevertheless, history is history and those who refuse to learn its lessons are doomed to repeat it. Inaction invites attack.

Again, tired analogy. There is no evidence that Iran is either gearing up to commit instant suicide (i.e. attack anyone), or that Iran is constructing nuclear weapons. If you have actual evidence that the latter is true, contact the IAEA immediately as they would be very happy to know what they missed after over 1400 days of unrestricted inspections.
